We started the year strong with a book donation event that went swimmingly. We decided to end it just as strongly. The collective planned and executed one of our biggest events yet, a Christmas fun day for the local kids in Iduku. Here’s how it went.
The Preparations:
First
Since it was the first event of its kind in the area, the plan was to go big. Nevertheless, going big requires funds which were a little low after all the events of the year. One of our board members came up with the idea to involve our friends. The idea was brilliant since a good number were happy to help. Charl and Charlene, I’m talking about you. We appreciate your help and we could never have done it without you.
Second
We started researching activity ideas the kids would enjoy. Chat GPT came in handy for this part. We decided to get:
- A bouncing castle
- Face painting
- Board games
 Third
A venue was selected and Iduku Friends church in Vihiga County won the vote. A date was also selected and invitations were sent out.
The Event
The event took place on 22nd December. By 9am the bouncing castle was up and was a beacon to any child passing by. The face painters arrived and finally, the food arrived and the festivities began.
We hosted about 60 kids many of who were having this experience for the first time in their lives. After an hour or so of pure bouncing castle bliss, it was mealtime. We all shared a meal.
Afterwards, we finished the day off with a Christian board game which was generously donated by the Phakama 254 Foundation.
The Aftermath:
The event was a topic of conversation throughout the festive season. A lot of grateful parents reached out to us to appreciate the event.
In 2025, we intend to do even more to uplift our community.
